Just tested usb - TTL not bad, can be connected right way?

looks like you have the rx and tx connected backwards. the rx on the serial cable should be wired to the tx on the board and the tx on the cable should be wired to the rx on the board... if you don't have noisy bootloader all this won't work so you'll end up having to jtag it anyway. ...however if you do have noisy bootloader try rewiring correctly, make sure baud, parity, flow control set-up and see if works.

depending on the firmware you can still get a silent bootloader to say hello
set it up to 9600 baud as you plug it in hit enter a few times quickly change it to 11255 baud
you will get what you want but it will stop as soon as the watchdog sees it so if you disable the watchdog at that point it will stay but its up to you to find the watchdog
but like i said it depends on which stock firmware is installed
