I have my connection right, my problem is how do i apply the 5volt to the chip because it seams the 3.3volt is too low. Should i solder a external 5volt power to where the 3.3v is connected to the modem?

if memory serves (it does not always) you connect 5v to the vcc of the chip not the entire modem
i did this just using a cut usb cable to replace the vcc wire

Let see if i get you before i try it. unsolder the 3.3v and GND form the SPI chip on the modem board and replace it with the 5v and GND from the USB cable wire right?
