I included one of the downloaded config files. Let me know if you need something else -- thanks for your help.

Meanwhile, I am trying to run a tftp server off of my laptop for the modem to download the config file ... not having much luck yet. The tftp process on the modem is timing out on "socket select"

do atelnet boot log and see what the ip is for the tftp cfg server and try to download thaT FROM THE ISP SERVER.

It looks like the real config file name is obscured. Meanwhile, when I try to tftp from the server for 'd;kfoA,.iye' I am getting a file not found...

Ok, I got the config file opened using vultureware. See attached.
I assume I need to modify as needed. The next question is what do I use for a passphrase when saving?

The passphrase is called the shared secret by the ISP's and I don't know of anyway to get it... unless you know the private snmp string, then maybe you could download the config from the CMTS and take a look around and find the shared secret. But that is another thing all together.

So the issue then is that I can't get this shared passphrase. How is it that I was able to open the file without a passphrase?
Does this leave me pretty much stuck? -- I don't think I am going to try getting into the CMTS.

It's Docsis 1.0.... fyi

Thanks,

you don't have to know the private string to find out the shared secret.

so - I found the community string. The shared secret is a different thing correct?

In any case - this is still docsis 1.0. Isn't there a chance of uncapping this effing thing. (sb5101i)

Alright, it is pretty clear to me the shared secret is dynamic. ABMJR said this before, but I wasn't far enough in my learning to understand.

So 1. Forcing config is out
2. tftp is out.

Is option 3 going after the cmts?
