Newbie JTAG Questions
#1
Long story short my SB5101 is down and I'm back to using my old TWC modem so run the net and I'd like to see what I can do to get things going again. I heard that the best way to do so would be to grab a 2MB dump, so I'm learning how to do that as of right now.

I have a blackcat usbjtag but I have no idea how to realistically use it. I've tried looking online for some tutorials but I don't really get much. I've also tried searching around the forums using the search button but this didn't get me far either.

Can anyone show me how to get a 2mb dump from the blackcat usb jtag? Or at least point me in the right direction?

watch this gif http://www.haxorware.com/forums/thread-1...ml#pid6031 it shows unbricking with a blackcat usb the only difference is that you'll need to click read on the cfi_flash tab to make a 2mb dump

When I plug it in I don't have the cfi_flash tab. Here are screenshots of the two different types of screens I get from plugging in the cable randomly 8 different ways, turning it if I get no response (I read you did that in another thread).

I'm trying to get a 2MB dump off of the factory modem they give me with my ISP so I'm not even sure if it's possible, but here's screenshots of it before and after I plug it in if it helps.

when doing anything technical knowing the most basic things are of the most importance
say for example knowing what a 5101 looks like

now the above image is a 5101 and i'll bet your modem looks nothing like that
but how about the image below which is an ambit u10c018 (or ambit 255)

now you have the problem of having a modem with no jtag port(thats a serial/ttl port you trying to connect to)

i'd write more and be more simperfetic but it's 4.56am and i'm going back to sleep

Well I do know what both look like. I said in the original post that I'm trying to get my SB5101 to work did I not? I also posted that I'm not sure if I can get a 2mb dump from my factory modem given by my ISP, which is why I'm asking.

So then what I would like to know now, is how would I be able to load a 2mb dump from a TWC stock modem into my SB5101 if I can't get it from the stock modem that does not have a jtag port?

still does not explain why you were trying to connect a blackcat to a serial port (unless you flashed it with a ttl firmware but thats just something i've been getting round to trying and see if it's even possible) so you need a serial/max/ttl cable

anyways back on topic see this thread http://www.haxorware.com/forums/thread-8...ml#pid4697 (do not follow the flash instructions)
now there are a number of things to try like exploit the bootloader then read the perm with softjtag (this has the advantage of not flashing anything to your stock modem)
ther are a few other things to try but they are dependant on flashing to your stock modem (even if it's just a temperary bootloader then running haxor rc7 from memory)

What ABMJR said plus the fact do you have the modem you are trying to scan even plugged in? since the blue light on the BCUSB is off (it is a read/write light, to let you know it's processing) i can tell its not reading it. that's easy to notice in the BCUSB software also. also have you tried to flip the connection to the modem around. in other words instead of connecting from the direction you are flip the connection over and come in from the other side. it could be that simple or not.

@ABMJR the modem that is working is a u10c018 modem just like drewmerc posted.

@crazyanimal the blue light goes on when I plug it in, I just didn't in that case since I was trying to take a picture of it. Otherwise, the light usually goes on.
