#1
lately asking me what is needed to mod keeps coming up so here's my list of shit you may need (fuck legacy crap it's 2012 parallel ports are dead)
pictures are not recommendations (random images)
i wonder what i have forgotten (don't say screw drivers everybody should have a good set that includes torx)

usbjtag nt
[Image: qT70W.jpg]
http://usbjtag.com/
ultimate modem modding tool
Quote:USB JTAG is Windows based JTAG tool for MIPS and ST20 CPU.
It has the speed of professional EJTAG but at a very low cost.
For now, the EJTAG can access target ram and program flash.

blackcat usb
[Image: AqcSc.jpg]
http://www.embeddedcomputers.net/products/BlackcatUSB/
if your to cheap to get the nt
Quote:This device is a cost-effective way to read or program thousands flash memory devices. This device can program all CFI compatible flash devices over JTAG and can also program SPI high-density serial flash devices.

usb spi programmer
[Image: Nv2AH.jpg]
http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_nkw=usb+spi+programmer
to cheap for the blackcat (or you only have 1 spi device and no need for jtag, i don't fucking know it's your choice)
Quote:programming serial FLASH/EEPROM/SPI memory, with built-in 32-bit high-speed processors and USB2.0 communication interfaces. It supports high-speed programming of nearly all 24/25/93/BR90 chips

usb ttl
[Image: LlIF6.jpg]
http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_nkw=usb+ttl
usb max232
Quote:i have nothing to write here it's a usb serial cable, why did i think it was a good idea to put descriptions

soldering iron
[Image: wKB5l.jpg]
http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_nkw=sold...glue+-flux
personally i'd forget the above type of irons and get a temp controlled iron
but whatever i know your all cheap asses (but trust me life is sooooo much better/easyer)

http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_nkw=Vari...te+-nozzle

solder
[Image: dLKo8.jpg]

solder braid/wick
[Image: ewUFf.jpg]
http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_nkw=solder+braid
you will fuck up this can help clean your mess

flux (no clean)
http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_nkw=solder+flux+pen
essential when soldering (try doing without first go on i dare you, then try it with. you will understand)

solder sucker
[Image: dyYNM.jpg]
http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_nkw=solder+sucker

multimeters
[Image: 6je4j.png]
http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_nkw=digi...86.c0.m359
everything i read on the net says get a good one, but i have had the same shitty pound shop (dollar store for you yanks) one and honestly i have no idea what 99% of the crap it does as i only use the buzzer function to test if a connections good

dental picks/tweezers
[Image: Qr97E.png]
http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_nkw=anti+static+tweeze

test hooks

tubes i deleted your post, well because i want this post next to the other
i also left off, good optical magnifying equipment because i have never used it(i wear glasses and never needed to look that close) and enameled as wire i have a large roll of ethernet wire and so i use that (and old ide cables i love them i'll collect them when ever i see an old system that shit is great for making cables)
as for legacy stuff i have a buffered jtag cable but speed is no different from an unbuffered one so pointless, i did build a max 233 cable (max233 chip removes the need for caps, i loved that cable first proper cable i built only thing i did wrong was i should have used no clean flux as it rotted after a few years), i had a willem programmer for programming tsop's but i lost the tsop48 adaptor (if i need to program a tsop now i hotswap them)

It gets old when you have to keep flashing this thing to get cvc working, nice to have with the other items. You want to have a clean install. With no traces. Angel

i'll say no, unless you like creating your own flash.def's as i doubt any of the usual jtag software will work with it
