Cisco DOCSIS CPE Configurator V3.7a

The Cisco DOCSIS CPE Configurator is a GUI-based tool designed to collect information needed to generate a DOCSIS modem configuration file.

Use the Cisco DOCSIS CPE Configurator to configure the following information:
  • Radio Frequency---Downstream frequency, upstream channel ID, network access
  • Class of Service---Class ID, maximum downstream rate, maximum upstream rate, upstream channel priority, guaranteed minimum upstream rate, maximum upstream transmit burst, baseline privacy enable
  • Vendor Information (Cable)---Vendor ID, vendor-specific information, Cisco IOS filename, number of phone lines (Cisco only), IP precedence (Cisco only), Cisco IOS configuration command
  • SNMP---SNMP manager IP, SNMP write-access, SNMP MIB object
  • Baseline Privacy---Authorize wait timeout, reauthorize wait timeout, authorization grace timeout, operational wait timeout, rekey wait timeout, TEK grace time, authorize reject wait timeout
  • Customer Premises Equipment---Maximum number of CPEs, CPE Ethernet MAC address, subscriber management control, subscriber management CPE IP table, subscriber management filter groups
  • Software Upgrade---TFTP server IP, filename
  • Telephone Return---Service provider name, telephone number 1, telephone number 2, telephone number 3, connection threshold, login username, login password, DHCP authentication, DHCP server IP, RADIUS realm, PPP authentication, demand dial inactivity timer threshold
  • Miscellaneous---Modem capability-concatenation support, RFC 2104 HMAC-MD5, maximum number of classifiers, privacy enable, key sequence number, manufacturers CVC, cosigners CVC, CMTS authentication
  • Upstream Packet Classification---Classifier reference, flow reference, rule priority, activation state, dynamic service change, IP type of service (ToS) range and mask, IP protocol, src address, src mask, destination address, destination mask, src port start, src port end, destination port start, destination port end, destination MAC address, src MAC address, Ethernet/DSA/MAC type, user priority (IEEE 802.1P), VLAN ID (IEEE 802.1Q), vendor-specific parameters
  • Downstream Packet Classification---Classifier reference, flow reference, rule priority, activation state, IP protocol, src address, src mask, destination address, destination mask, src port start, src port end, destination port start, destination port end, destination MAC address, src MAC address, Ethernet/DSA/MAC type, user priority (IEEE 802.1P), VLAN ID (IEEE 802.1Q), vendor-specific parameters
  • Upstream Service Flow---Flow reference, service class name, quality of service (QoS) parameter set type, traffic priority, maximum sustained traffic rate, maximum traffic burst, minimum reserved traffic rate, assumed minimum reserved rate packet size, timeout for active QoS parameters, timeout for admitted QoS parameters, maximum concatenated burst, service flow scheduling type, request per transmission policy, nominal polling interval, tolerated poll jitter, unsolicited grant size, nominal grant interval, tolerated grant jitter, grants per interval, IP type of service (ToS) overwrite, vendor-specific QoS
  • Downstream Service Flow---Flow reference, service class name, quality of service (QoS) parameter set type, traffic priority, maximum sustained traffic rate, maximum traffic burst, minimum reserved traffic rate, assumed minimum reserved rate packet size, timeout for active QoS parameters, timeout for Admitted QoS parameters, maximum downstream latency, vendor-specific QoS
  • Payload Header Suppression---Classifier reference, flow reference, PHSF, PHSI, PHSM, PHSS, PHSV, vendor-specific PHS parameters
The Cisco DOCSIS CPE Configurator (Desktop version) is a standalone application that can be run on your PC or Solaris workstation, without the use of a browser. This version's executable is downloaded once from the World Wide Web (ftp-eng.cisco.com) and then distributed for use in laptops, workstations, or other PCs.
The DOCSIS specification requires that a DOCSIS-compliant modem download a DOCSIS configuration file during its power-on or reset sequence. This file must be in the format described in the DOCSIS Radio Frequency Specification (SP-RFI-IOS-991105).
The information stored in the DOCSIS configuration file is in binary format. The Cisco DOCSIS CPE Configurator assumes that the user knows something about the parameters used in the configuration file. The target users for the Cisco DOCSIS CPE Configurator are Cisco Sales Engineers (SEs), multiple systems operator (MSO) provisioners, @Home engineers, or other, more general users.

Hardware requirements:
  • Windows---Pentium class PC with 32 MB of RAM and 50 MB of free hard disk space running Windows 95/98 or Windows NT
  • UNIX---Ultra-5 Solaris workstation with 64 MB of RAM and 50 MB of free hard disk space running Solaris 2.6 or higher
Software requirements:
  • Java---Installation of Java Runtime Environment.
Button, check box, and pull-down menu functions:
  • New file button---Press this button to reset all fields in each topic to their default values.
  • Open file button---Press this button to load and edit an existing DOCSIS configuration file into the Cisco DOCSIS CPE Configurator.
  • Save file button---Press this button to save information in the Cisco DOCSIS CPE Configurator to a new or existing file.
  • Previous button---Press this button to view the previous list for SNMP MIB Object. Note: This button applies only to SNMP MIB Object not SNMP Manager IP or SNMP Write Access.
  • Next button---Press this button to view the next list for SNMP MIB Object. Note: This button applies only to SNMP MIB Object not SNMP Manager IP or SNMP Write Access.
  • OK button---Press this button to save the information that has been modified or added to a particular screen.
  • Cancel button---Press this button to cancel all changes made to the current screen. This causes the values in each field to be reset to the values you had prior to your last save.
  • Help button---Press this button for a detailed description of each field in a particular screen.
  • Remove check box---Check this box to remove an entry. Once the OK button is pressed, the entry will be removed. These check boxes are found in the Class of Service, Vendor, and SNMP screens.
  • File drop-down menu---Contains New, Open, and Save subdirectories. See the "New file button," "Open file button," and "Save file button" descriptions. This menu also includes Exit to quit the DOCSIS CPE Configurator.
  • Help drop-down menu---Contains Overview ... and About ... help topics.
The tabs at the top of the Cisco DOCSIS CPE Configurator navigation bar enable you to systematically set up a DOCSIS modem configuration file. After modifying or adding information to each screen, click OK to save the information pertaining to that screen. After completing all screens, click File/Save or Save to a file to generate the Cisco IOS configuration file.
The following configuration settings MUST be included in the configuration file and MUST be supported by all modems. These fields are mandatory.
  • Radio Frequency Information---Network Access
  • Miscellaneous---Use RFC 2104 HMAC-MD5
Note: A field marked in red indicates that it is a mandatory entry field.

The following configuration settings MIGHT be included in the configuration file and, if present, MUST be supported by all modems. Cisco strongly recommends the following settings:
  • Radio Frequency Information---Downstream Frequency, Upstream Channel ID
  • Class of Service---All fields
  • Vendor Information---Vendor ID
  • SNMP---All fields
  • Baseline Privacy---All fields
  • Customer Premises Equipment---All fields
  • Software Upgrade---Filename

Exactly this is what they call a DOCSIS Config Editor to create DOCSIS configurations for cable modems

It would be the different tier levels made/configured by the ISP from the TFTP Server...
