Actually, I tried the my 6141 at my friends house in a different zip code and it worked for me.

Funny how dudes are bitter over the free ride being over and blaming the other dudes that sell.  That will never stop, its been going on since the days you could intercept cable.   Plus, modem shutdowns happen every 4/5 years, but believe me, guys are working round the clock to find a workaround like always.  Eventually someone will give away the secret and we'll have another batch of generation selling underground. So stop complaining, bitches...
