"The Orange County Register reports a Lake Forest woman says she was watching HGTV on her Cox Communications cable service on Thursday when the alert flashed across the screen. Video shows the message included the voice of a man warning that "in the last days extremely violent time will come." The newspaper says Spectrum cable customers also got the message."

In 1995 "Road Runner High Speed Online" was launched by Time Warner Cable. However, in 2012, it was rebranded as simply Time Warner Cable Internet.

On May 26, 2015, Charter announced that it would acquire Time Warner Cable along with Bright House Networks. The purchase was completed on May 18, 2016.

With Charter's acquisition of Time Warner Cable in May 2016, the service has been rebranded as "Spectrum Internet" on September 20, 2016.

And if you're wondering about Comcast?

In February 2014, the company agreed to merge with Time Warner Cable in an equity swap deal. However, on April 24, 2015, Comcast terminated the agreement. Comcast and Charter Communications entered into an agreement to conduct exclusive discussions with Sprint in late June 2017.

How about Verizon?
As of late 2011, Time Warner Cable stopped signing up new Road Runner Mobile customers under resold Clearwire WiMax service. Existing WiMax customers could continue to use the service, but TWC began signing up new Road Runner Mobile customers under resold Verizon Wireless 4G LTE services.

On January 26, 2017, it was reported that Verizon Communications was in talks with Charter to discuss a possible buyout. The deal was rejected around the end of May 2017.

in May 2017, it was reported that Charter and Comcast had entered into an agreement to "explore working together in a number of potential operational areas in the wireless space" in respect to mobile virtual network operators (MVNOs); both providers have agreements with Verizon Wireless to re-sell its services, and Comcast announced that it would begin to do so under the brand Xfinity Mobile later in the year.

P.S. Comcast won the Consumerist Worst Company In America ("Golden Poo") award in 2010. A gold trophy in the shape of a pile of human feces was delivered to Comcast Corporate Headquarters to commemorate the unmatched level of enmity flowing from their customer base to their business.

I copy and pasted the above spinets of information, with minor changes to make it shorter, from Wikipedia:

Summary: Almost every single cable internet company is basically owned by one sole entity in the USA, it simply operates other cable companies under their various names.

Therefore, I hope my semantic research helped everyone to realize it doesn't technically matter anymore which company is being called on. Besides, we're most likely due for more mergers, so expect a total dominate monopoly of cable internet just like 'big bell' in it's prime time.

Also, blame Ajit Pai - the new chairman of the FCC for destroying net neutrality, and much more - it would not be surprising if eventually cable companies sold internet packages like TV service packages are currently sold- due to Ajit Pai approving it. With the Basic Package you can only visit 5 websites, with Basic Plus, you can visit 20 websites, with the Preferred Package you get 50 websites, and etc... And besides, Ajit Pai expressed many times that "Americans do not need high speed internet access."

Or you can also blame capitalism, as it naturally has a tendency for money to accumulate and not distribute.

Who knows anymore, we're screwed anyway in every matter of importance.

What I find interesting is :"according to my local news broadcast" The companies both said it was supposed to be a routine emergency broadcast system play but somehow signal leakage occurred and some signal "leaked" in from elsewhere.

Why cant they just admit they got hacked. Maybe the Aliens did it. Blame Trump
