I purchased swapped my old 5101 sb modem about year ago from an ex cable modem employee with another 5101 sb modem but active... He said that it's good to go. and worked great. some times needed a power reset and all is good.
so today I have no probs. with: torrenting, ftpping or card sharing. but have issues only accessing internet via web browser. the only specific site that works flawless: facebook.com, google and mail.yahoo.com. but very very slow once logged in (unable to click on links, timeout errors or too long to respond errors).
If I power reset modem. The modem works flawlessly for about 4 minutes and then issue occurs again.
What could be wrong?
I called him today and told me that it does this every year or so (sometimes some last longer, etc..) . He has another one but am interested in modding this.

Do modems have some type of time limit? Restrictions (i.e. parental lock type)
Could it be that modem is not being updated latest firmware?
