I have popped it open and seen the BCM 3345. I have seen a jtag and serial port. I have a blackcat and have scalped a header for th dcm245. I am assuming that I should hook it up and do a full dump for backup reasons. I know a little about the hacking thing and know that there is Broadcom chip support. Will this work??? Hey I only paid 50cents for the modem, so if it will work great, if not oh well.... thanks in advance

Thanks you have been allot of help. You have helped me out 2x now its appreciated. I had thought it was similiar to the sb4100, but if its a 4200 htats good too.. I know its not related, but would sigma, fiberware or hackware?!? work if you know... Like I had said somewhere Im still a n00b, but I did flash a SB5101 with some effort and had no problems. I have still yet to get the thing to work, I have managed to hack a SB5100 a 5101 they sync and obtain an ip, but no internet access. I have read pages of tuts. Gulped down the Haynes manual and the tcniso book also. I really wouldnt reccomend tcniso to anyone, except there ebook. Took my money and never got my blackcat, did get one elsewhere after bout dying making and growing old waiting on the lpt version I hacked together. What p'o me most is they wouldnt send me a cable or give me a key after snatchn my money up. I emailed and argued so long that the cc card co. wouldnt refund anything... shoulda just went there after the first email. Theres also something to be said about usps too, just cause they scanned something and delivered it somewhere w/o a sig that was enough "supposed proof" to belittle me... sorry bout the rant. I have so many electronic projects and I only get them to partially work, whats worse is im a packrat... lol Gotta get a yardsale goin on soon!

i have no idea if any of them firm's will work all i can say is try them, as they will run but your modem may have a different tuner and that will stop them conecting (me i'd just connect up blackcat change the mac to a docsis1.0 mac and it should go online)
with any modem if it connects without online access start simple change the dns and see if it works still nothing learn how to do a full telnet log and post it online (better if you do this via ttl and not ethernet)
as with anything you buy online always check how they deal with problems, a review without problems (is good) but a review with problems were it sorted out(fast) is better

if your a noob i'd say dont bother as nothing is documented so there will be no help
i do know this modem has both console access and jtag http://foobox.org/fotos/album/rca-dcm245-hack/ (quick 5 second search) but i found little usable info
