Unfortunately what you're proposing is not possible in 2014. If this were a few years ago then it would've been a matter of flashing to a diagnostic firmware and forcing the modem to download an alternate tftp boot config with better speed settings.
Your modem is provisioned to run at the speed you are getting. There is no conventional way to get around it.
