USB JTAG software - Bruiser - 14-06-2014 I have only ever used a parallel JTAG, which was fine, met my needs OK. No real reason to do anything. But I found a USB JTAG, it has a prolific serial chip on it. It was for an Arduino project. I think it should be useable for cable modems too. I installed the prolific chip driver, it works in device manager. I have a couple of DOCSIS 3 units I want to play with, a Motorola, a Cisco, a Scientific Atlanta. Assuming they have JTAG, which I have not yet investigated. What software for reflashing modems would be usable? I tried the BlackCat USB software, that doesn't seem to know it's there. I think the usbjtag.com software only works with their product, which this is not. Any ideas? RE: USB JTAG software - drewmerc - 14-06-2014 openocd http://openocd.sourceforge.net/ is the standard but no fancy gui also most d3 dont need jtag, due to being spi chip based can your jtag do spi (as you'd want flashrom for that http://flashrom.org/Flashrom ) RE: USB JTAG software - Bruiser - 14-06-2014 Well, I am working with the USBJTAG that I have on hand with an SB5100, for that I do need jtag and it has one that I soldered on it. But what software can I use to put alternate firmware on using this USBJtag unit? Prolific, I installed the prolific drivers. As I recall with my old simple JTAG, parallel, I used swartzkatze, and something else. Don't remember what, it's been so long. RE: USB JTAG software - drewmerc - 15-06-2014 welcome to the nightmareish world of using a non(modem)standard usbjtag, only upside is this may force you to learn how to correctly use jtag and boundary scan (and thus open a whole new world) CANT CONNECT WIFI ROUTER - Polymorphic1 - 15-06-2014 thread hijack and pointless caps? great 1st post makes me sooooooooooooooooooooooooo want to help you RE: USB JTAG software - drewmerc - 15-06-2014 /sarcasm ninja edit RE: USB JTAG software - Bruiser - 15-06-2014 (15-06-2014, 04:33 AM)drewmerc Wrote: welcome to the nightmareish world of using a non(modem)standard usbjtag, only upside is this may force you to learn how to correctly use jtag and boundary scan (and thus open a whole new world) Yeah, well, I don't think this is all rocket science, those jtag ports are all the same. As to USB style JTAG interfaces, that's *not* native. It's all a little weird if you ask me. I always knew it was kind of a kluge. But a whole bunch of people seem to thing that USB Jtag is somehow *normal*. I don't think so. I guess the problem is all the shake and bake software that has been cooked up to make JTAG of a particular device like a common cable modem easy to use for civilians. I have a few XILINX JTAG interfaces laying around here too. Wonder what those are good for? BTW, those other two posts about the wifi router, that looks like a forum database problem to me. That and your response should not even be on this thread. Unless there was something else that you deleted. I dunno. |
