So, I purchased an SB5101U. After the purchase I remember it's not the same as the regular SB5101. I have a blackcat jtag and use tom's jTag utility. Is it still a problem flashing these models?

you will need a spi programmer blackcatusb or jtagtnt let me know if you brick it
i had one read flash then wrote hax and it never booted again ram gets extremely hot

You mean even with the SPI programmer blackcat USB or JTAGTNT you can still brick it? Wow, I guess I'll resell it.
