buying a SB5101 Modem MODDED - positiveg - 12-04-2012

Modem, with Haxoware already to install.
What do I expect?
I've been reading up as much as I could and one thing I realise is that most you guys here are experts. So I'm just wondering if I buy one of these what to expect.
I'm located outside the US, I have been having some really strange internet issues and the sole Cable ISP here don't seem to sure what's going on.
I am supposed to be getting 4 MB, then at nights or when a lot of ppl in the neighborhood is home I get 1MB or less.
They did me a fav and put me at 5 MB, the problem still remains the same, where I get around 1 MB. in the mornings it's flying as the day go on it gets slower.
The ISP told me that it's only about 37% of the bandwidth is being used so it's shouldn't be a factor of overloading.

So I'm wondering if I get one of these modems, because they might tell me summen is wrong with the modem I have and I need to buy one, so if i buy a pre mod one, I can do some altering to make sure it works at peak times right?
thanks
G

first i would not trust anything an isp tells me about cable quality they lie, second if your already having line issues i don't think a haxor modem will help

Ok cool, what happens is that if I run a speed test on the line (via ISP site)I get the speeds I'm supposed to be having (right now that's like 5MB)
But really when I run a real speedtest, via speedtestdotnet I get about 1 MB or so. And it only happens certain times of the day

try using ping and traceroute to test your line quality
so incase you don't like the command line http://4sysops.com/archives/free-winping-a-portable-ping-gui/ and http://www.visualroute.com/download.html

Thanks I will try these when I get home.
A ISP tech came ran some of those and said he realised after several pings one would drop or take a while but they don't know why
they changed the nodes and all that but still same crappy service

If they change the node that means all on your street is facing the same problem, not just you.

The thing though I'm the only one complaining about it. That's what they tell me.
