no he's not gone, firmware development is more open due to stock d3 firmware's being open source (getting this is sometimes tricky but they are out there if you look) what i really doubt is if we'll ever have a firmware as nice and friendly as haxorware again (this is not really a bad thing as real testers use telnet/ssh)
