Newbie, which Modem - picrthis - 25-12-2009

He guys I'm new at this and I think I'm just going to get a modded modem from ebay that is ready to go, since I have to buy one anyway to do this.

Can anybody tell me, one which modem would be the best to buy and from who on ebay that isn't a scammer?

I'm in the tampa bay area and they use webstar modems. Should I get one of those, or are the Motorola's better, and will work too?

I've been reading and reading lots to learn.

Thanks!

Merry Xmas!

any that runs haxorware (i am going to say that to be honest, but its true)
and only way to get full support is buy from the source
http://www.motomodz.net/servlet/the-Cable-Modems/Categories

me i'd pick the webstar just cause it has both jtag and max232 (and i like them)

Thanks I'm looking @ the webstar now it says it doesn't include the jtag cable, do you mean it has the jtag & max232 interfaces in it, and then all I would need is a cable if I wanted to; as oppposed to the moto is doesn't have these interfaces? I have a mac address I'm pretty sure i can use, just want to be sure to select the best feature modem first.

Thanks for your help, I will purchase from that link you provided for sure, since it has support, but I'm pretty after reading & reading I should be able to get it to work.

ambit's only have max232
moto's have jtag (max232 is possible but fiddley)
webstars have both

moto's have a perfect serial TTL header that you can simply connect to same as the webstars

The modem should be here any day now. I see on the site where they have the jtag adapter, but I don't see any mention of the max232. The webstar says it come with a 8 pin header on it, which I would attach the jtag to.
But what about the max232? what is needed/how to use? I didn't see any mention from the site about max232 feature.

Thank you so much.
