Flashing SB5101. Putty problem. - Stoowyguy - 15-04-2012

I am trying to flash sb5101 through serial concept but when I go into Putty to start flashing i cant connect to Com1 it says this when i try " Unable to open connections to COM1, Unable to open serial port" How do i get my modem to connect to the comport?

To find out which COM port is assigned to it, open Device Manager

Click Start-> Run

Type devmgmt.msc and press Enter

In the Device Manager window, expand Ports (COM & LPT)

Find and double click on device listed for the scale.

Click on Port Settings tab

Click Advanced button

Beside COM Port Number, change the port number to COM1

Click Ok

If you get any error message, click Yes

Click Ok

Now test the issue.

If it fails, open Device Manager and expand Ports (COM & LPT)

Let me know the name of devices listed under it

so i guess your using a usb serial cable then, i guess you need to install drivers for your cable

Wait a sec, am I able to even flash my modem through ethernet. Cause I dont have a usb for it.

RE: Flashing SB5101. Putty problem. - drewmerc - 15-04-2012

this is an old style serial cable

this is a usb serial cable

this is a usb ttl cable (what i recommend as the best serial cable)

this next cable is not a serial cable in any way, shape or form (and no you cant flash a 5101 via ethernet)

I purchased a cable modem with haxorware on it from "this guy" and after awihle it doesn't work anymore. As in when I plug it in Ethernet it says unidentified and doesn't work so I'm trying to re-flash it. What exactlly do I need to do this. I onus have Ethernet for hooking it up what do i need to buy to flash it.

unplug the coax cable (included image just in case) and try logging in if that fails you'll need a jtag cable

Yeah that doesnt work. So were do i get a jtag cable?

RE: Flashing SB5101. Putty problem. - southernyankey1970 - 16-04-2012

I highly rcommend a usbjtag NT 60 bucks usbjtag.com best one there is. Since you are new to this you could get by with a Blackcat usb from Ebay 30 bucks.

so you can't get to 192.168.100.1 ? Is it asking for a password?
